Hello there! So, so, so good to meet you. I’m Amy, and I’m a “none.”
A what? Well, it took a lot of searching for me to find this term, but it fits perfectly. A “none” is someone who doesn’t belong to any particular religion. There are likely as many reasons for being a “none” as there are individuals, so we’re a hard group to label. Nones might be atheists, agnostics, former-members-of religions, humanists, etc. etc. etc.
Why is the “none” identity important to me? Because I am, and desire to be, a moral, principled, world-better-er person who is forever learning how to improve. I am only one person with only one life (we have that in common!) and I want to work to leave things better than I found them. For many, religion offers a prescribed path to a better life. For me, following advice only because “XYZ religious figure said so” feels wrong.
So, my goal is to find ways of leading a life of positive change without relying on religious texts as my sole source of justification. NoneLife podcast is where I share what I’m learning and also talk with others to receive their good advice too.
One more thing I want to share: you are not alone. Maybe, like me, you’ve spent time searching for that place where you feel welcomed and included on a “spiritual” level. The person who taught me the word “none” assured me that I Was. Not. Alone. It was so reassuring to realize, at last, that there wasn’t anything ‘wrong’ with me or the way in which I aspired to do good. I mean it when I say it is so good to meet you – you are welcome here.
WELCOME #2
Hello again! If you’ve found your way here then you read that original WELCOME awhile ago, so I figured it was time to check-in again. I’ve put a new greeting together, and wanted to share it with you.
Are you a fellow “None”? Do you seek to understand life’s complex questions, but beyond a lens of “because [someone] said so”? How do we know which is the right choice? What are the benefits of being kind to others, respectful of differences, and pushing beyond our own comfort zones? NoneLife is a motivational podcast that analyzes tough questions through multiple contemporary and historical viewpoints, providing an aspirational and practical alternative to a morality justified only by religion.
